Social deserves respect, but you’ll probably have to earn it, not have it handed to you.
Here are some ways to showcase the value of LinkedIn to your team:
Present most important updates and milestones in companywide channels
Send out a regular digest to the company that shares:
Most popular posts
1-2 screenshots
Highlight any great posts from the team/leadership
The idea is to show that social plays a role in growth
If you also manage other programs like community or content, you could do an update that includes high-level insights for all of the programs
Create a dedicated channel for sharing updates from LinkedIn
Share page content, screenshot/share shoutouts, encourage the team to share their own posts so everyone can boost
Codify a social media policy - this is less about restricting what they post and more about giving them insurance to be active on social without worrying about being punished
Consider setting up a formal employee advocacy program
Invite feedback and ideas
Run occasional team challenges
I’ve found that having even just 1 or 2 people who are bought in and excited about getting active on LinkedIn can create a ripple effect in the company. Let’s call it positive peer pressure.
So your first, and most important step, will be to look for your champions and get them on board!
